Like I have posted before in car GPSs are just asking for problems. A small carry with you Garmin Nuvi is the way to go.:

Or, you can simply not program where your home is into your hardmounted GPS/nav system...My salesman mentioned that he (were he me) would never program in "Home" into my GPS system since, like the video shows, a thief can nab my ride while I am out and knowing that I am *not* at home, drive right to it and have his or her way with it.

And personal GPS devices are fine - but they present the same dangers if you don't actually "carry it with you". 99% of the time I see portable GPS devices, they're still stuck via suction cup to the windsheild of their cars/trucks while the drivers are off eating, shopping, whatever. A "carry with you" GPS, in other words, isn't one bit safer unless you actually take it with you every time you leave the vehicle. IMHO, they actually will entice more car break-ins, since all you have to do is bust a safety/tempered side window, snatch it and the power cord out, and you're off. May not lead the thieves to your home, but you're out several hundred bucks for the GPS (+ more for your MP3 player and anything else they grab while they're at it) not to mention the repair bill for your car's window.

who's care if home is programmed in your gps the theif can just find your address on the registration

i'm gonna have to agree with josh. maybe we should carry our registration with us. but than the thief will wait for us outside our house. wait for us to leave. if a thief wants to steal he's going to steal

Josh is right. The first time I had in-dash GPS, I was worried about this until I realized that your home address is already in the glovebox anyway.

This concept is why I'm paranoid about using the Homelink built-in garage door control. Yes, the regular door opener is already in the car. But if I'm leaving the vehicle with a repair place or something, I can remove the garage door opener. At least in some situations, I can control whether or not the car comes with a free pass to the garage.

No I think the best solution is to walk everywhere that way there is no vehicle to steal and no registration for them to take!! Haha

I agree with Josh. The GPS agrument is a good one- but simpler things are your registration, or leaving your garage door opener on your visor. Because then they know they can use your registration, find your house, and atleast steal stuff from your garage or maybe even your house if there is a house entry from your garage
